U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Washington is working on a major deal to purchase potash fertilizers from Belarus. The American leader made the statement on social media.
“The United States is working on a massive Deal with respect to the purchase of Potash from Belarus. The pricing would be for substantially less than what we are currently paying to Canada, very good news for our Farmers and Ranchers,” the American leader wrote.
During talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk in December 2025, U.S. Presidential Envoy for Belarus John Coale said that the United States was lifting sanctions on Belarusian potash. According to him, the relevant instructions were given by American leader Donald Trump.
In March 2026, during another round of talks with the American delegation in Minsk, it became known that the issue of Belarusian potash had been finally resolved. The Belarusian Potash Company and Belaruskali were removed from all the U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctions lists.
