Volfovich: We do everything for the Belarusian nation to live in peace

We do everything possible for our Belarusian people to live in peace. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich made the statement as he took part in Independence Day celebrations at the WW2 memorial complex Mound of Glory, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Volfovich noted that today our country celebrates one of the most important holidays of statehood, and this date has deep historical roots. “The first stage of Operation Bagration was completed, and a 105,000-strong force of Nazi troops was surrounded in the Minsk cauldron. The long years of occupation of our country were over. And with tremendous joy the people welcomed soldiers of the Red Army back then, in 1944. With tears in their eyes. This is truly a common holiday,” the state secretary of the Security Council said.

He emphasized that Belarusians remember history: “Today in all corners of our country people go to the graves and monuments in honor of war heroes, lay flowers, recall, and pay tribute of remembrance to the fallen, to those who did everything possible so that today Belarus could live under a peaceful sky. And we have gathered here at the Mound of Glory, which is also one of the symbols of our independence, in order to lay flowers and to recall the fallen.”

“We do not want a repeat of what happened more than 80 years ago. And we do everything possible so that our Belarusian people could live in peace and fulfill their tasks: teachers in schools, doctors in hospitals, and so that agricultural workers could grow grain in the fields, so that our products could be famous all over the world. And this is what money should be spent on. We should develop the economy for the sake of these goals, improving the social conditions of our citizens instead of spending money on war, on military conflicts, and on weapons, as our neighbors in the West do today,” Aleksandr Volfovich added.
