CIS views rational water use among its top priorities

Rational use of water resources is one of the priority areas of cooperation among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), CIS Deputy Secretary General Nurlan Seitimov said at the plenary session of the 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" 2018-2028 in Dushanbe, TASS reports.

“Rational use of water resources is one of the priority areas of cooperation among the CIS states. In particular, it should be noted that the CIS Economic Development Strategy for the period up to 2030 includes measures to achieve the goals and objectives of the International Decade for Action ‘Water for Sustainable Development’,” he said.

Nurlan Seitimov added that under the auspices of the CIS Interstate Environmental Council and the CIS Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology, “specific measures have been developed regarding environmental monitoring and protection, natural resource management, and ensuring environmental safety, both across the CIS member states and at the national level.”

The 4th High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" 2018-2028 was hosted by Dushanbe from 25 to 28 May. The event drew together more than 2,500 representatives of international organizations, including high-ranking officials from UN bodies and regional organizations, academic and youth associations and also government representatives and members of the diplomatic corps.
