New stations, 400kW+ chargers: Belarus plans to expand EV charging network

The national operator of the Malanka charging network, the Belorusneft production association, told BelTA how the country’s electric-vehicle charging infrastructure will continue to develop.

As the company noted, Malanka currently operates 975 EV charging stations. “In addition, more than 400 charging stations belong to over 40 partner organizations. The state operator primarily installs fast chargers with capacities of 120 and 175 kW, as well as ultra-fast chargers of 300-350 kW,” the company said.

According to specialists, these power levels are optimal for most electric vehicles on Belarusian roads. “But given the pace of technological progress, Belorusneft plans further development of the charging infrastructure with the introduction of dynamic power-distribution solutions and chargers exceeding 400 kW. This is a long-term goal, while this year’s plan is to expand the network by more than 450 stations of various capacities,” the company added.

Since last year, the company has begun manufacturing charging stations independently: they are produced by Belorusneft Promservice. The product range includes chargers from 7 to 350 kW. “Localizing production allows the enterprise to accumulate unique in-house expertise and provides technological flexibility and production security, including independence from external suppliers,” the company explained.

Since electric vehicles from many different countries are present on the Belarusian market, ensuring compatibility with various charging standards is essential, specialists emphasized. Building a system-forming basic charging network requires constant alignment with user needs and rapid adaptation to market changes. “The sharp increase over the past two years in EV imports from China prompted us to retrofit the vast majority of charging stations with connectors of the Chinese GB/T standard. Today, most locations support the main connector types: CCS, CHAdeMO, and GB/T,” the company added.
