IOC allows Belarus to host international events

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has allowed international competitions to be held in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

In a statement released recently, the IOC specifically states that “International Federations can organize and support international sports events in Belarus”. Sanctions against Russia remain in effect.

As BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus, the IOC Executive Board proposed changes to its own decision of 28 March 2023 for approval by the 14th Olympic Summit held in Lausanne.

Under the latest IOC recommendations, young athletes from Belarus will now be able to compete and represent Belarus at international competitions in individual and team sports, including the upcoming 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar. They will do so without any restrictions on using national symbols, without a neutral status, and without additional vetting by international federations.

In accordance with these recommendations, Belarus once again has the right to host top-level international competitions on its territory, the NOC emphasized.
