Belarus offers support to FAO in global fight against hunger

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Holy See and Permanent Representative to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and other international organizations in Rome Yuri Ambrazevich presented his credentials to FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Affairs Ministry told BelTA.

“During the meeting, the parties had a thorough discussion not only about Belarus’ cooperation with FAO, but also about the state of global food security. Particular attention was paid to measures that can and should be taken under FAO’s mandate, with Belarusian support, to effectively combat hunger worldwide,” the ministry noted.

According to annual studies conducted by FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, UNICEF, the World Food Programme, and the World Health Organization, Belarus ranks among the countries with the highest levels of food security. However, hunger remains a critical and growing issue in many parts of the world.

The same studies identify unilateral coercive measures or sanctions, imposed without consideration for the fate of hundreds of millions of people, as one of the factors directly undermining global food security.
