Беларусь - одна из создателей Дуги Струве – объекта всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО, который простирается от Норвегии до Дуная. Уроженец Беларуси геодезист и генерал русской армии Иосиф Ходзько был одним из самых активных участников изыскательских работ. К 220-летию белорусского учёного на его родине в Мядельском районе открыта памятная доска, а в нашем эфире - невероятные истории от Владимира Мкртычяна, автора книг о загадочной Дуге Струве и о личности Иосифа Ходзько.
История белорусской геодезии глубока и многогранна. Она знает много славных имён замечательных учёных и отважных исследователей, геодезистов и географов, прославивших белорусскую землю. Один из них - знаменитый исследователь, ставший впоследствии генералом русской армии - Иосиф Ходзько.
Родился Иосиф Ходзько 19 декабря 1800 в местечке Кривичи Раковской волости Вилейского повета Минской губернии в многодетной польской семье известного педагога и литератора Яна Ходько. Родители - богатые дворяне, семья не жалела средств на воспитание и образование детей. Иосиф очень рано проявил интерес к точным наукам таким как, математика, физика и астрономия.
В 16 лет поступил на физико-математический факультет Виленского университета, который окончил с отличием. Иосиф Ходзько свободно разговаривал на иностранных языках, таких как русский, польский, французский, латинский и белорусский. В перриод военной службы по поручению своего руководства выполнял геодезические и астрономические работы, которые ещё при жизни были признаны и высоко оценены учёным миром, а его имя навсегда вошло в историю мировой и белоруской геодезии.
На малой родине знаменитого земляка - в городском поселке Кривичи в Мядельском районе - открыта мемориальная доска в честь 220-й годовщины со дня рождения Иосифа Ходзько. А книгу о выдающемся учёном, геодезисте и топографе, активном участнике работ по созданию Геодезической дуги Струве – написал человек, посвятивший свою жизнь белорусской геодезии, преподаватель Владимир Мкртычян:
Для справки: Дуга Струве первоначально была возведена для создания наиболее точных географических карт. Для Российской империи важно было правильно отразить на картах свои гигантские просторы, чтобы в дальнейшем с соседними странами не возникали конфликты, могущие перейти в вооруженные столкновения. Это была первая задача. В дальнейшем руководитель постройки Дуги российский астроном первой половины XIX века, директор обсерватории в Пулково Василий Струве, понял, что Дугу можно эффективно использовать для научного вычисления точных параметров Земли. Научному миру того времени потребовалось самое точное измерение величины меридианов. Для этого и была проложена гигантская цепь геодезических пунктов на протяжении почти 3 000 км вдоль меридиана в 25 градусов. Цепь прошла по современным скандинавским и прибалтийским странам, а также по Беларуси, России, Украине и Молдове. Геодезическая дуга Струве признана объектом всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО.
