В Беларуси живет около 160 тысяч украинцев. Это третье по численности – после русских и поляков – национальное меньшинство в нашей стране. С 1999 г. между государствами действует «Соглашение о сотрудничестве в обеспечении прав лиц, принадлежащих к национальным меньшинствам», также юридические аспекты работы с зарубежными украинцами и украинскими общественными объединениями Беларуси регламентирует Национальная программа «Зарубежное украинство».

В нашей стране действует более десятка общественных организаций, самая крупная – Белорусское общественное объединение украинцев «Ватра». «Белорусские украинцы» нередко инициируют культурные проекты, которые объединяют историю двух стран.

Сегодня в регионах работают три Почетных консульства Украины в Беларуси. Почётным консулом, как правило, является белорус с украинскими корнями, часто это представители бизнеса, которых хорошо знают в обществе. Такая структура не имеет дипломатического статуса, однако там жители регионов могут оперативно получить необходимые консультации.

Нынешний Посол Украины в Беларуси Игорь Кизим работает в нашей стране четвертый год. I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English.
