Uganda shows interest in Belarus’ engineering and agricultural technology

Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov has discussed projects in agriculture and manufacturing with Ugandan Foreign Minister Odongo Jeje Abubakher on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministers reaffirmed the high level of trust and mutual understanding that underpins Belarus-Uganda cooperation and expressed their shared commitment to further strengthening political dialogue and comprehensive cooperation.

“It was emphasized that regular contacts between the foreign ministries ensure sustainable and robust cooperation and create a solid foundation for the implementation of joint initiatives. The discussion centered on concrete measures to enact the memorandum of understanding on food security. Key initiatives involved the creation of an assembly facility for Belarusian agricultural machinery, the advancement of projects in the agricultural and industrial sectors, and the enhancement of two-way trade. Particular attention was paid to the need to hold the first meeting of the joint committee on trade and economic cooperation as soon as possible,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

In talks with Maksim Ryzhenkov, Managing Director at the Uganda National Enterprise Corporation James Mugira expressed his organization’s interest in advanced Belarusian technologies for mechanical engineering and agriculture. The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to Belarus-Uganda cooperation, focusing on the practical aspects of developing industrial cooperation and the establishment of assembly factories for Belarusian agricultural machinery in Uganda.

On the sidelines of the NAM Ministerial meeting, Maksim Ryzhenkov also met with Yván Gil Pinto, Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The foreign ministers reviewed progress to implement high-level agreements and explored the possibility to launch new joint projects. They supported reinvigorating the Belarus-Venezuela trade and economic commission and giving fresh impetus to business community interactions.

“The ministers reaffirmed their mutual interest in further deepening political dialogue and expanding comprehensive cooperation, primarily in trade, economy, manufacturing, energy, agriculture, and humanitarian matters. The ministers noted their countries’ shared positions on key global issues and emphasized the need for joint action to uphold international law, the sovereign equality of states, and the rejection of illegal unilateral coercive measures,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

During a meeting with Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric, both sides agreed that the historical friendship and mutual respect between their peoples should continue to form the foundation of bilateral relations. The talks focused on intensifying trade, economic, and industrial cooperation, and developing collaboration in agriculture, transport, pharmaceuticals, and high technology. They emphasized the need to resume contacts between respective ministries and business communities of the two countries. The ministers also exchanged invitations for reciprocal visits.

Maksim Ryzhenkov also met with U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The parties welcomed the progressive development of Belarus-Myanmar relations, the strengthening of political dialogue, and mutual interest in pursuing comprehensive and long-term cooperation. The talks gave particular emphasis to the schedule of upcoming joint events, including high-level visits, and Myanmar’s participation in the III Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security. The parties also reaffirmed their shared approaches to key international issues.

The parties also focused on deepening industrial and agricultural cooperation and promoting joint projects in mechanical engineering, agriculture, and education. They emphasized their interest in supplies of Belarusian machinery, equipment, and technology, as well as in exchanging experience in professional training.

In addition, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, Maksim Ryzhenkov held brief conversations with the foreign ministers of Algeria and Cuba, the deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan, and the permanent observer of Palestine to the UN in the context of the recent Gaza ceasefire deal.

With the Algerian foreign minister, discussions covered the current bilateral agenda, focusing on the substance of Maksim Ryzhenkov’s upcoming visit to Algeria and plans for future high-level exchanges.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
