Similar aspirations seen as basis for cooperation between Belarus, Asian countries

Similar aspirations, including on the international agenda, are the basis for the development of cooperation between Belarus and the countries of the Asian region, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko said as he spoke at the Belarus-Asia Forum in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

"We have similar social and economic aspirations and similar positions on the international agenda. Our peoples have similar national traits: openness, benevolence, friendliness. This all makes a good basis for the development of our cooperation," Ambassador Vladimir Semashko noted.

He stressed that Belarus has been actively developing cooperation with partners in different parts of the world. "The most important transport routes between Europe and Asia converge on the territory of our country," the ambassador said. As Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has repeatedly said, Belarus is the geographical center of Europe. We have pursued a multi-vector foreign policy and will continue to. From this we proceed as we build our policy based on the principles of peace, equality and mutual respect."

According to the diplomat, relations between Belarus and its partners in Asia have strengthened in recent years. "Today, the Asian countries have made great advances in social, economic, scientific and technological development, playing an increasing role in international affairs,” Ambassador Vladimir Semashko said. “The Asian region is a vast and promising market for Belarusian goods and services, a target market and a source of mutual investment. Therefore, the development of all-round ties with this dynamically developing region is of great importance for Belarus. Belarus has a reputation as a reliable economic partner honoring its commitments. The country has created a favorable business climate. The country is home to six free economic zones, the Belarusian-Chinese industrial park Great Stone."

The ambassador called on the Asian diplomatic missions countries to expand contacts in Belarus, visit the country to build new ties, and use the Belarusian embassy in Moscow to establish contacts with business missions. As a recent example, he cited the presentations made by Belarusian organizations in the embassy's Business and Cultural Center for the business delegation of the United Arab Emirates.

According to Ambassador Vladimir Semashko, it is not for the first time that the embassy has organized an event like today's forum. “The Belarusian embassy in Moscow hosts exhibitions, presentations, meetings, business and cultural events to give our guests from Russia and many other countries an opportunity to learn more about Belarus. We have held presentations of the country's economy and opportunities for cooperation with each of the regions of Belarus, presentations of tourism, educational and scientific potential, and also the Great Stone Industrial Park, and cultural projects,” he added.

The Belarus-Asia Forum seeks to showcase Belarus' export potential, establish business contacts, and exchange views on the state and prospects of trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Asian countries. The event has brought together Asian diplomats working in the embassies accredited in Russia and concurrently in Belarus that have neither representative offices in Minsk nor embassies of Belarus at home. They include ambassadors, chiefs of diplomatic missions, and other diplomats of Indonesia, Yemen, Cambodia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Afghanistan, Laos, and the Philippines.

Representatives of Asian countries are told about possible forms of cooperation with Belarusian industrial enterprises, export financing of joint projects, Belarus' capacities in agriculture, and the work of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in enhancing cooperation with partners on the Asian market.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
