Belarus FM holds meetings in New York

On the first day of his visit to New York, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with the foreign ministers of Iran, Nicaragua, Turkey, Serbia, and Finland, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian, the parties confirmed the need to intensify Belarusian-Iranian trade and economic cooperation in the near future, including taking into account the joint efforts of the two countries in the international arena to counter economic pressure and unilateral coercive measures.

The foreign ministers of Belarus and Iran noted the convergence of their positions on a number of topical international issues, primarily with regard to the issue of illegal sanctions as a method of political pressure and interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.

Hossein Amirabdollahian invited Vladimir Makei to pay a working visit to Tehran in the near future.

At the talks with Nicaraguan Minister of Foreign Affairs Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, the parties hailed a high level of mutual support in the international arena.

The foreign minister of Nicaragua stressed the importance of Belarus' participation in the activities of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. Vladimir Makei thanked him for his assistance in promoting Belarus' initiatives at the UN, including those on combating human trafficking.

The parties also paid special attention to the development of economic ties between the two countries, intensification of work of the joint Belarus-Nicaragua intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation and increasing the intensity of contacts between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu, the parties praised the positive dynamics of bilateral cooperation, discussed preparations for the next meeting of the Belarusian-Turkish joint intergovernmental economic commission, and exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, including the issue of combating illegal migration.

Vladimir Makei thanked his counterpart for Turkey's principled position and assistance amid the anti-Belarusian rhetoric and actions on the part of a number of states.

Mevlut Cavusoglu confirmed Turkey's high interest in developing comprehensive relations with Belarus and implementing major economic projects in the country. He also thanked the Belarusian side for its substantial assistance in extinguishing forest fires on the southern coast of Turkey.

Vladimir Makei and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selakovic discussed the status and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, and economic sectors and interaction in multilateral platforms.

The ministers exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda, including the situation in the Western Balkans.

Vladimir Makei also discussed a number of issues of mutual interest at the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Pekka Haavisto.

As BelTA reported earlier, Vladimir Makei is visiting New York on 21-28 September to participate in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 76).

The foreign minister will speak at the General Debate of the 76th session of UNGA 76 and the UN Food Systems Summit and will take part in the ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends in defense of the Charter of the United Nations where he will discuss the topic of unilateral measures.

Vladimir Makei is set to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia and senior members of the United Nations on the sidelines of the General Assembly session.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
