The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have signed an agreement on scientific and technological cooperation and an action plan to strengthen cooperation for 2025-2030. The documents were signed by Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Karanik and CAS President Hou Jianguo, the NASB press service told BelTA.
The agreement aims to enhance the scientific and technological potential of Belarus and China, expand relations between the two countries, facilitate scientific and technological cooperation, and implement joint activities in mutually beneficial research areas. The main objectives include creating favorable conditions for joint research, commercializing the outcomes of joint projects, exchanging ideas and information, and jointly utilizing the scientific infrastructure of both countries.
The parties plan to establish joint research centers and laboratories housed by the NASB, the CAS and the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. They also aim to conduct joint studies across various fields, organize internships, and provide graduate and postgraduate training programs at their universities.
The academies of sciences of Belarus and China have outlined priority areas for scientific cooperation, including microelectronics, instrument engineering, mechanical engineering (with a focus on electric transport development), space, optical and laser technologies, information technology, and artificial intelligence. Scientists from both countries will also cooperate in energy, nanomaterials and nanotechnology, biotechnology and medicine, chemical technologies, and environmental protection. Preserving the historical and cultural heritage of both nations remains a key focus.
During the meeting, Vladimir Karanik emphasized the long-standing fruitful partnership between Belarus and China, built on mutual respect, trust, and a commitment to innovative development. "China is one of Belarus' key strategic partners in science, technology, and high-tech industries. I want to highlight that the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, as the country's leading scientific organization, actively develops and strengthens scientific cooperation with China. Interaction with China's research centers and enterprises is a priority in the Academy’s international activities," he noted.
Vladimir Karanik also held talks with Hou Jianguo to discuss promising areas and mechanisms for expanding cooperation between the NASB and the CAS. Members of the Belarusian delegation visited the Institute of Microelectronics of the CAS and the Institute of Semiconductors of the CAS.
