Belarus’ MPs reaffirm commitment to sovereign equality principles in address to Cuba

Belarusian parliamentarians have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the principles of sovereign equality of all states, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and negotiation. This was stated in an address from the working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Cuba to Cuban parliamentarians, BelTA has learned.
 
“The working group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Cuba expresses deep concern over alarming trends that undermine the fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations,” the address circulated by the press service of the House of Representatives reads.
 
It is noted that Belarusian parliamentarians are deeply troubled by developments around the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and actions that constitute a gross violation of sovereignty and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of independent states.
 
Equally concerning, the address continues, are political claims against Cuba and a number of sovereign Latin American countries. Such rhetoric, aimed at revising the established world order and promoting the logic of force and ultimatums, poses a direct threat to global and regional stability and sows the seeds of new conflicts.
 
“We, Belarusians, who endured the horrors of two world wars on our land and who are active supporters of building a multipolar world based on justice and equality, once again reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the principles of sovereign equality of all states, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and negotiation,” the address states.
 
Belarusian parliamentarians call on parliaments of all countries to firmly defend these fundamental norms of international law. “Dialogue, mutual respect, and strict adherence to the principles of the UN Charter must be the only possible foundation for interstate relations. Any attempt by a country to assume the role of global judge or global policeman is doomed to failure and leads only to chaos and human suffering,” the address emphasizes.
 
The working group of the National Assembly of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of Cuba is convinced that at this critical landmark, the future of all humanity depends on a united and firm stance in response to blatant acts of arbitrariness and lawlessness. “Only through joint efforts to strengthen the role of the UN and other international institutions can we preserve peace, ensure the sovereignty of states, and prevent the world from sliding into a new era of confrontation and instability,” the address concludes.

21st June was fifth International Yoga Day observed across the world. The theme for Yoga Day 2019 was "Yoga for Climate Action”. On this day, which is dedicated to inner and outer well-being of human body, people across the world practice yoga in groups. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga, a physical, mental and spiritual practice.
