Ways of intensifying the political dialogue, development of bilateral relations and strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation were discussed at the meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Russia and Belarus on concurrent Udayanga Weeratunga in Moscow.
“The sides discussed a wide range of issues regarding bilateral relations: development of the legal framework, a possible visit of a Sri Lankan delegation to Minsk in the near future, trade and economic cooperation, tourism, education,” the embassy informed. The parties also confirmed their intention for further cooperation, including within international organizations.
The Republic of Belarus and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations in November 2000. In 2012 the mutual trade between Belarus and Sri Lanka totaled $46.2 million.
