KHL unveils regular season format

The Kontinental Hockey League has unveiled the competition structure for the 7th KHL Championship. A total of 28 teams will be split into two conferences and four divisions. HC Dinamo Minsk will play in the Bobrov Division of the Western conference.

The Western Conference will include the Bobrov Division (Atlant, Dinamo Minsk, Dinamo Riga, Jokerit, Medvescak, SKA, Slovan) and the Tarasov Division (CSKA, Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv, Severstal, HC Sochi, Torpedo, Vityaz).

The Eastern Conference will be comprised of the Kharlamov Division (Ak Bars , Avtomobilist, Lada, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Neftekhimik, Traktor, Ugra) and the Chernyshev Division (Admiral, Amur, Avangard, Barys, Metallurg Novokuznetsk, Salavat Yulaev, Sibir).

According to the new format, each team will play a total of 60 games in the regular season, of which 52 will be as follows: 24 games against the other teams in their division, 14 games against the teams in the other division in their conference, and 14 more against teams from the other conference.


Of the 8 remaining games, four will be against teams in their own conference and four against opposition from the other conference.

As soon as the format gets the final approval, the League will publish the calendar of games for the 7th KHL Championship. It is known that the first game of the 7th season, the Opening Cup, will be contested by the current Gagarin Cup holder Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Dynamo Moscow, the winner of the 2013-14 Continental Cup (regular season champion).
