A Belarusian delegation led by Resident Representative of Belarus in International Organizations in Geneva Mikhail Khvostov took part in discussing country situations with human rights at the 21st session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The Belarusian diplomats pointed out human rights violations in the European Union, including Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, France, Switzerland, and Sweden. In view of the excessively lenient sentence pronounced by the Norwegian justice system on terrorist Anders Breivik the Belarusian delegation doubted the ability of the Norway authorities to guarantee the right to life and effective legal protection means to their citizens.
Apart from that, the Belarusian side spoke in favor of creating a special mechanism in the UN Human Rights Council to monitor the human rights situation in the European Union.
