Lukashenko pardons 14 convicts

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has made a decision to pardon 14 convicts, Press Secretary of the Belarusian president Natalya Eismont told BelTA.

This was reportedly a request from the president of the United States of America.

“Most of them are foreign nationals: two citizens of Japan, three of Poland, two of Latvia, as well as citizens of Estonia, Sweden, and the United States. The list also includes several Belarusians. These individuals were convicted of extremist and terrorist activity,” Natalya Eismont stated, according to the Telegram channel Pul Pervogo.

“Sergei Tikhanovsky is among them. The decision to release [Sergei] Tikhanovsky was made by the president solely on humanitarian grounds in order to reunite his family,” the press secretary added.
