In the match versus team Georgia, which took place on the 16th of October in Minsk, the Belarusian team had to take revenge for the defeat in Tbilisi in their first qualifier with the score 0:1 and get their first points in the World Cup 2014 campaign. And luckily, our team met the expectation of their fans, having defeated Georgia at home with the score 2:0.
At the press-conference after the match Belarus head coach Georgiy Kondratiev said:
“I can’t say that I’m overjoyed. Probably emotions passed away during the game. The day before me and my assistants had much thinking about the game.
Then we gathered to discuss the plans for the match once again and came to a conclusion that we should have all attacking players among first eleven, because we needed a victory.
I want to congratulate all the people who supported us on this victory.
I would also like to thank coaches of clubs, who prepared guys for matches. Without their preparation it would be very difficult to get the team ready for the qualifiers during some 3-4 days. I want to thank them a lot”.
Group I standings:Spain 7 points, France 7 points, Georgia 4 points, Belarus 3 points, Finland 1 point.
The Georgia tie was the last qualifier in 2012. In 2013 Georgy Kondratyev’s side will face Finland away and home on 7 and 11 June respectively. On 10 September 2013 Belarus will host France. The last match of the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign Belarus will play away against Spain on 11 October.
