Thirteen medals for Team Belarus at Commonwealth Cup in Minsk

The Commonwealth Speed Skating Cup featuring the best athletes of Belarus and Russia wrapped up at Minsk Arena on 29 December, BelTA learned.


The program of the final day featured the mass start races. The entire podium for men was occupied by representatives of Russia, with Olympic medalist Daniil Aldoshkin clinching gold. In the women's race, Belarusian Maryna Zuyeva finished first, ahead of Russia's Irina Salnikova and Alisa Bekker. The program also included the 100m races: in the women’s circuit Belarusian Hanna Damaratskaya clocked the second result, losing again only to Daria Kachanova, the leader of the Russian team. The Belarusian Artyom Chaban won bronze in the men’s' event.

Thus, Team Belarus won a total of 13 medals (4-4-5) at the home Commonwealth Cup. The gold winners were Ekaterina Gagieva (1500m), Maryna Zuyeva (3000 m; mass start) and Ignat Golovatsiuk (1000m). Hanna Damaratskaya became a three-time silver medalist, with Yahor  Damaratsky bagging one silver and one bronze. Ignat Golovatsiuk and Ekaterina Gagieva claimed bronze in the 500m. The quartet from Minsk closed the top three medalists in the team sprint.
