Belarus' chairmanship period in Eurasian Economic Union hailed as fruitful

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) believes that the period of Belarus' chairmanship in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in 2020 was fruitful, Iya Malkina, Aide to the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, said at a briefing answering a question from a BelTA correspondent on 20 January, BelTA has learned. “The commission assesses the period of Belarus' chairmanship as fruitful,” said Iya Malkina. “The tasks were ambitious, and despite objective challenges, most of the points of the plan to implement the address of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko were fulfilled during this year,” she added. Iya Malkina highlighted the adoption of several documents on the transition to a uniform or common policy in agriculture, energy, transport, the study of the possibility of using anti-dumping, compensatory and special measures to protect the economic interests of manufacturers in the EAEU. During the Belarusian chairmanship, the EAEU kept harmonizing approaches to the operation and state regulation of the integrated foreign exchange market, to the expansion of the use of national currencies of the EAEU states in mutual settlements, the de-dollarization of their economies, the formation of a common settlement infrastructure and payment space. A number of steps were taken to promote import substitution in manufacturing and agriculture, and to remove obstacles in the EAEU internal market. Iya Malkina noted that by 2025 the EEC Board together with the member states will develop and approve more than 30 documents of the EAEU bodies.
