Belarus has consistently advocated the strengthening of the international agreements to combat the climate change

Belarus has consistently advocated the strengthening of the international agreements to combat the climate change, Tatiana Leshkova, Belarus’ representative, said in a speech during the discussions at the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York.
“Belarus continues to be an active participant in multilateral efforts to protect the global climate, and complies with the obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Kyoto Protocol,” Tatiana Leshkova said.  She added that Belarus is voluntarily taking practical steps to reduce domestic emissions of greenhouse gases. “For our part we expect more active assistance to middle-income countries with fulfillment of their commitments under the Kyoto Protocol. In this regard, we are concerned over the EU unilateral measures to impose the green tax on air transport, which undermines the confidence between the parties to the Convention and its Protocol,” said Tatiana Leshkova.
In addition, the representative of Belarus noted that the country fully supports the UN Secretary General’s recommendation for the establishment of the global mechanism to transfer the technology. She also noted that the international community should formulate soon the sustainable development goal for the period after 2015.
