Belarus’ grain harvest reaches 10.8m tonnes

Almost 10.8 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, have been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“As of 12 November, some 10,765,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, were cropped in Belarus, up 750,000 tonnes year-on-year,” the press service said.

The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast – 2.673 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 2.175 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 2.109 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.377 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.361 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.070 million tonnes.

Belarus has harvested 98% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops, including corn, which makes up 2,246,000 hectares. Average grain yield is 43.4 centners per hectare, 5.3 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

The harvest of flax straw totals 206,000 tonnes, with a yield that is 11.6 centners per hectare higher than the previous year.

Corn for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 100% of the area, which is 1,033,000 hectares. So far Belarus has harvested 14.029 million tonnes of haylage (over 100% of the plan), 19.829 million tonnes of silage (96% of the plan) and 9.703 million tonnes of grass forage units (97% of the plan).

Sugar beet has been harvested from 98% of the area (104,000 hectares). The harvest has yielded 5,620,000 tonnes of sugar beet. The yield is 49 centners per hectare higher than last year.

Nationwide, 229,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested. The total sown area exceeds 8,000 hectares, with 99% of it cropped now.

Autumn ploughing has been carried out on 971,000 hectares, representing 68% of the target area of 1.432 million hectares.
