The deployment of UN peacekeepers in Donbass could help resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in Ukraine and in the Trilateral Contact Group, Ambassador Martin Sajdik, told the media after the meeting of the TCG ‎and its Working Groups in Minsk on 16 May, BelTA reports.

Martin Sajdik added that last week in Washington he met with U.S. Special Representative Kurt Volker who supported the idea of peacekeepers in Donbass. Meetings will Kurt Volker are expected later in Vienna and Bratislava. “I think we need his efforts [to help resolve the conflict in Donbass],” the diplomat said. Martin Sajdik stated earlier that the issue of deploying UN peacekeepers to ensure the safety of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Donbass cannot not be considered in isolation from the Minsk Agreements. As for the detainee exchange, the OSCE special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group said that this matter is duly discussed. He did not, however, comment on the number of persons subject to the exchange.
