Belarus’ world number 54 Victoria Azarenka has reached the Italian Open second round by securing a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Colombia’s world number 55 Camila Osorio in the opener, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next place Poland’s world number 25 Magdalena Frech. In 2013 Victoria Azarenka reached the final where she lost to Serena Williams of the United States.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus will open the event in Rome from the second round. She will play either Ukraine’s world number 45 Dayana Yastremska or Russia’s world number 43 Anastasia Potapova. Last year Aryna Sabalenka reached the Italian Open final where she lost to Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
The event in Rome will be over on 17 May. The winner will earn 1,000 points and €877,300.
