Belarus interested in closer cooperation with Georgia in all fields

Belarus pays much attention to the cooperation with Georgia and is going to do its best to promote this cooperation across the board, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Ambassador of Georgia to Belarus Valeri Kvaratskhelia. The head of state emphasized that after the presidential election in Georgia it is important to synchronize watches for the development of the Belarusian-Georgian interaction:

"There was a serious battle and we were keeping an eye on it. The election was a success. I congratulate you personally as an ambassador, Georgian people that the political period is over. Please convey the best wishes to the elected president. A woman was elected president for the first time in Georgia. Maybe, this will also be a good experience on the post-Soviet space. We’ll see. Belarus and our society will keep an eye on this experience. As to our cooperation, I have to say we are completely satisfied with it. Trade and economic relations are always the foundation. Our trade is increasingly vibrant, and we started from zero some time ago. Our Deputy Prime Minister is on a visit in Georgia now. It is important that he should once again confirm our positions after the elections. This shows that we are paying more attention to our relations with the friendly and brotherly nation of Georgia and are eager to promote this cooperation across the board. Humanitarian contacts are developing. You are aware of the attitude to Georgian people in Belarus. Belarusians like the Georgian culture festival Tbilisoba. Belarus and Georgia have an action plan for the development of cooperation. We are eager to meet with the new president of Georgia, the new government. After my visit the government was renewed there, and it will be very important to synchronize watches. I believe our Foreign Ministries will take care of that in the near future".

The Belarusian head of state paid an official visit to Georgia in March 2018. During the visit the sides signed a cooperation agreement which envisages the development of all-round mutually beneficial cooperation. In 2017, the Belaruaian-Georgian trade made up $93.5 million. It increased by 26% over 2016.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
